The Houston Local News Initiative (“HLNI”) is growing our team of passionate people on a mission to advance democracy in our communities and strengthen the lives of all Houstonians one story at a time. HLNI is launching soon as an independent, non-profit digital news operation that will cover a broad range of topics serving the Greater Houston community. HLNI is initially supported by a coalition of three of Houston’s leading philanthropies including Arnold Ventures, The Houston Endowment, and the Kinder Foundation.

At HLNI, we are expanding our Operations team to include a Data Analyst. The Data Analyst will report directly to the COO and will be responsible for interpreting and presenting all product analytics. You will be a strategic thought partner and your work will directly impact achieving the HLNI mission.

What You'll Do

• Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
• Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
• Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
• Filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems
• Work closely with the COO to prioritize business and information needs
• Locate and define new process improvement opportunities

• Experience - You have 5+ years of experience in data analytics or technology product management
• Mission-oriented - You’re committed to our mission to advance democracy and improve the lives of all Houstonians
• Self-starter - You’re ready to experience the chaos of an early stage startup, and have a proven ability to roll up your sleeves to get things done
  
• Communicator - You have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with and report on product feedback to the COO to produce impact.
• Multi-tasker - You’re able to set priorities while remaining flexible in an ever-changing environment
• Technical skills – You are an expert in Google Analytics. You have experience with Redshift, SQL, Hubspot, and setting up dashboards in Data Studio
